Entrepreneurs, like the ones who raised me, seem to have a sixth sense. They anticipate the unforeseen and uncover diamonds in the rough. They see potential where others see a dead end. To some degree or another we all have this inner longing to do something, to be something great. We long to leave an impact, a legacy behind when we leave this world.
If we are open to hear and receive it, I believe God plants heaven-sized dreams in each of us. He plants in us potential that we can grow into, but not within our own strength, with HIS power and might working through us.
Maybe you find yourself in a place, like me, where God has given you a vision for your future. And maybe you, like me, have found this vision to be too overwhelming to consider. You begin to say, “Why me God? I am not capable of all of this.” If He were to respond, He would likely say to us, “Yes, I know you are not capable, but I am. With me this dream is not only possible, it is already accomplished.”
What often keeps me from moving forward with my heaven-sized dreams is what I see right in front of me. A closed door. A big one, that looks impenetrable. I fixate my attention on the closed door, analyzing every part of it, the large chain, the kind of padlock and what type of key fits in the lock. I get stuck staring at the dead end, even though my heart knows God’s truth.
Revelation 3:7&8 (ESV) says, “‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens. I know your works. Behold, I have set before you and open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.'”
Maybe it’s time, we take our eyes off of the closed door in front of us, and fix our gaze on the one true God who has the key to the securely closed door. Let’s walk on, carrying our heaven-sized dreams. Let’s set our gaze on the one who determines which doors are open and which door close, when and how.
That dream inside of you, beckons you to obedience, to trusting in God to make a way. Others around you may say you are crazy, that it is not possible. Others around you may try to make you believe that your dream is silly or a waste of time, or will have consequences beyond your control.
Our job is not to try to control the consequences (we can’t anyway), or control how others feel about the dream. Our job as Christ followers is to be obedient and respond to the dream, and let God take the lead. What if all God is waiting for is for us to take the first step toward the door? What if one step of trust and obedience is the key to unlock the padlock?
Doors closed today, may be open doors tomorrow. Take the first step today, dreamer, and see what your step of obedience impacts around you. Remember, if God wants the door to be opened before you, He will open it, and no one will be able to close it.
